Germany tightens traffic rules for cyclists and school road safety

Since early 2017, German traffic regulations require cyclists to obey the vehicle traffic lights at intersections. Riders who follow a pedestrian signal instead of the vehicle signal risk a red‑light violation, with fines of up to €128.50 and a point on their driving record.

In the municipality of Adelzhausen, mayor Johannes Treffler announced a new 30 km/h speed limit on the Aichacher Straße during school days (7 – 9 am and 12 – 14 pm). The restriction, intended to make the school route safer and reduce noise for residents, will be signposted before the start of the school term. The council also launched a fresh call for student crossing volunteers to assist children on the route.
