Germany to conduct nationwide emergency warning test on September 10, 2026

Germany will conduct a nationwide warning system test, known as Warntag, on Thursday, September 10, 2026. Starting at 11:00 AM, the federal government, state governments, and participating municipalities will trigger various alert systems to familiarize the population with emergency procedures.

The test involves multiple channels, including sirens, warning apps such as NINA and Katwarn, radio, television, digital information displays, and cell broadcast technology. For the first time, the all-clear signal (Entwarnung) will also be tested via cell broadcast. Most smartphones will receive a test warning, though users with older iOS or Android versions may need to ensure their devices are compatible.

Following the alarm, which lasts approximately one minute, an all-clear signal is expected about half an hour later. An online survey will be available from September 10 to 17 to collect public feedback on the effectiveness of the warning systems.
