Germany to introduce U10 medical examinations for children

The Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) has decided to introduce the U10 medical examination for nine- and ten-year-olds as a regular service covered by statutory health insurance in Germany, effective August 2026.

This new measure aims to close a developmental monitoring gap between the U9 examination (typically around age five) and the J1 youth health examination (occurring between ages 13 and 14). The U10 will focus on modern health risks and lifestyle factors, including mental health and media usage. Additionally, the J1 examination will be integrated into the children's health booklet (Gelbes Heft) to ensure continuous medical documentation through adolescence.
