Germany to issue 35‑euro silver coin honoring singer Tamara Danz

The German federal cabinet approved the minting of a 35‑euro silver collector coin to commemorate the 75th birthday of rock singer Tamara Danz, with issue planned for 2027. The same series will include a second 35‑euro coin marking the centenary of Fritz Lang’s film Metropolis, also slated for 2027. Cultural Minister Wolfram Weimer described the coins as “artworks for the pocket” that tell stories about the nation’s cultural identity.

Danz, the former frontwoman of the East German band Silly, was known for poetic, outspoken lyrics that reflected life under the SED regime. She died in 1996 at age 43. Approximately ten to twelve special collector coins are produced each year, covering figures and themes from science, politics, culture, society and sport.

Previous German commemorative coins have featured personalities such as Immanuel Kant, Annette von Droste‑Hülshoff, and cultural events like the Berlinale and Bayreuth Festival.
