Germany to launch Automatic Safety Alert service via DAB+ radio
The Automatic Safety Alert (ASA) service, known as ‘ASA DE’, is scheduled to launch nationwide across the DAB+ radio network in Germany starting September 10. This system is designed to protect the population during emergencies and crises by broadcasting security messages directly via digital radio.
As part of Germany’s existing emergency warning mix—which includes sirens, mobile apps, and Cell Broadcast—ASA provides a reliable alternative that functions even when mobile networks or internet connections are interrupted. The system operates automatically in the background and can be regionally adjusted based on a user's location.
Digitalradio Deutschland e. V. has launched a dedicated information portal to assist listeners. The website provides step-by-step instructions for setting up ASA-certified radios, video demonstrations of the system's benefits, and practical downloads, including a guide for testing ASA-compatible radios during the nationwide warning day on September 10.
