Germany receives first F-35 fighter jet in Texas
Germany has received its first F-35A Lightning II fighter jet during a ceremony in Fort Worth, Texas, hosted by Lockheed Martin. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius attended the event, describing the aircraft as the most modern fighter jet in the world due to its stealth capabilities, advanced sensors, and digital networking potential.
The German government ordered 35 F-35 aircraft in 2022 for approximately ten billion euros. This acquisition is intended to replace the aging Tornado fleet and is a key component of Germany's role in NATO's nuclear sharing policy, as the jets are capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
The first eight aircraft are expected to be delivered this year, though they will remain in the United States for pilot and technician training. The first jet is scheduled to be stationed in Germany next year, with the full fleet expected to be operational by 2029.
