Germany transport disruptions: SWEG strike and S-Bahn maintenance
Public transportation in parts of Germany faces significant disruptions due to both labor strikes and scheduled infrastructure maintenance.
A three-day warning strike by the ver.di union is affecting Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs GmbH (SWEG) services from Wednesday to Friday. The strike impacts bus and regional train services in several South Baden cities, including Lahr, Offenburg, Kehl, Emmendingen, Müllheim, and Weil am Rhein. Affected rail lines include Bad Krozingen to Münstertal, Achern to Ottenhöfen, and Biberach to Oberharmersbach. The union is demanding better protection against dismissal following the outsourcing of bus lines, while SWEG management has labeled the strike disproportionate.
Separately, the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG) has announced service restrictions on the S5, S51, and S52 lines between late September and early October. Nightly cancellations will occur between Wörth and Knielingen due to switch work near the Karlsruhe Rhine bridge. Additionally, daytime disruptions are expected on the S5 and S52 lines between Germersheim/Wörth and Karlsruhe due to municipal sewage works and maintenance by DB InfraGo.
