Iran downs US drone, strikes Kuwait base killing six US soldiers
Iran’s army announced that its air‑defence units shot down a hostile “Lucas‑type” unmanned aerial vehicle over the southern port city of Bandar Abbas, describing the aircraft as a US‑Israeli drone operating in Iranian airspace. The incident occurred amid heightened tensions following recent US‑Centcom strikes on Iranian sites in the Strait of Hormuz.
A day later, an Iranian Shahed drone struck the U.S. logistics hub at Port Shuaiba in Kuwait, destroying the operations centre of the 103rd Sustainment Command. Six American soldiers were killed and more than 30 wounded. Survivors said senior officers ignored repeated intelligence warnings that the facility was a vulnerable target and that commanders abandoned troops inside the burning building. The attack is being cited as one of the deadliest single incidents for U.S. personnel in the ongoing Iran‑U.S. confrontation.
Both events illustrate the rapid escalation of hostilities in the region, with Iran demonstrating its ability to intercept foreign drones and deliver precision strikes against U.S. installations, while the United States continues to conduct aerial operations aimed at degrading Iran’s missile and drone capabilities.
