Germany uncovers suspected Russian spy weapons cache near Berlin

German authorities have uncovered a professionally assembled weapons cache hidden in a forest near the border of Berlin and Brandenburg. Investigators suspect the cache was intended for use by Russian intelligence operatives to conduct “kinetic operations” or targeted assassinations on German soil or within neighboring European states.

The discovery is linked to the 2025 arrest of a Russian intelligence operative in Romania, who reportedly revealed the cache's existence during interrogation. The cache contained at least two handguns and other equipment. Following the discovery, German investigators monitored the weapons using geolocation devices and electronic surveillance for several months. After determining that the intended users were unlikely to retrieve the items, likely due to the breach of the location, authorities terminated the surveillance.

The Office of the German Federal Prosecutor is currently preparing charges related to conspiracy to commit serious criminal acts against the security of the state. The incident has heightened concerns regarding hybrid threats and foreign intelligence operations within Europe.
