Germany to increase pensions for parents under Mütterrente III

Under the 'Mütterrente III' initiative, German parents who raised children born before 1992 will receive increased pension benefits. The reform aims to equalize childcare credits by providing up to 36 months of credit for all children, up from the 30 months previously applied to those born before 1992. This adjustment is expected to add approximately 20.40 euros gross per month per child to the pension.

The legal implementation is set for January 1, 2027, though the Deutsche Rentenversicherung has stated that technical challenges mean actual payments will not begin until 2028. Current pensioners will receive retroactive payments for the year 2027.

Crucially, the increase is not automatic for everyone; it depends on whether the childcare periods are correctly recorded in the individual's pension account. Those with correctly recorded periods will receive adjustments automatically, while others may need to verify their records through the Deutsche Rentenversicherung service portal to ensure they do not miss out.
