Germany urges heat‑wave protections ahead of national Heat Action Day

The Verbraucher Initiative will hold a Zoom lecture on 11 June 2026 offering practical advice for seniors to cope with increasingly frequent heatwaves, such as keeping homes cool, staying hydrated and using cooling spaces. Ahead of the nationwide Heat Action Day, the Saar‑Greens called for concrete climate‑adaptation investments, citing the first 2026 heatwave that hit the region in late May. Party leader Volker Morbe urged faster funding for public drinking fountains, marked cool‑down areas, urban greening and “sponge‑city” projects to store rainwater and reduce heat stress. He emphasized that heat protection must become a municipal duty financed by federal and state authorities.
