Germany weather: Centennial Calendar predicts heavy snow

A 17th-century historical document known as the Centennial Calendar is drawing attention for its predictions regarding upcoming weather patterns in Germany. Developed by Abbot Mauritius Knauer at Langheim Abbey, the 'Calendarium Oeconomicum Perpetuum Practicum' was originally intended to assist with agricultural planning using astrological methods.

According to the updated calendar, weather changes are expected around September 3, with the first frost potentially arriving on November 16, followed by significant snowfall in early December. While these historical predictions remain a point of curiosity, modern meteorologists note that the calendar's astrological basis is outdated and not used for official forecasting.

In contrast, contemporary meteorological models, such as those used by meteorologist Andrej Flis, suggest a generally mild and wet winter for Europe, though they indicate the possibility of stronger cold waves and snow in the latter part of the season due to a weakening polar vortex. These discussions follow a summer of extreme heat in Germany, which the Robert Koch Institute estimated resulted in over 15,000 deaths.
