Germany wins Over-80 World Cup football title in Australia

The German Over-80 national football team has secured the World Cup title in Cleveland, Australia, after defeating the USA 2-0 in the final. The team, which includes players such as 85-year-old Karl-Heinz Schulte, also overcame Japan in previous stages of the tournament.

Following the victory, former professional footballer Torsten Mattuschka criticized the German Football Association (DFB), labeling their lack of support for the senior squad as ‘highly embarrassing.’ While the team received some kits, players noted a lack of broader institutional assistance from the federation.

The tournament organizer, Günter Christmann, emphasized that the project aims to demonstrate that physical and mental fitness can be maintained through movement as people age. Germany also saw success in other age categories, with the Over-75 team winning their title, while the Over-70 team reached the final.
