Germany women's football team seeks new center forward

The Germany women's national football team is currently searching for a definitive center forward ahead of the 2027 World Cup in Brazil and the 2029 European Championship. Following a 4-2 victory against Australia, Melissa Kössler has emerged as a strong candidate after scoring her first two international goals.

National coach Christian Wück described the search for a striker as a quest for a versatile player who is physically strong, capable of defending and distributing the ball, and effective in one-on-one situations. Wück noted that such players are rare and that the current selection pool remains open for competition.

While Kössler has made significant progress in the US NWSL with Denver Summit FC, other players such as Nicole Anyomi are also competing for a position. Meanwhile, striker Lea Schüller is expected to miss the upcoming test match against Japan in Bremen due to an infection.
