Germany wins inaugural U16 Women's Handball World Championship
The German U16 women's national handball team secured the inaugural World Championship title in Agadir, Morocco, with a 37-32 victory over Hungary. Led by coach Gino Smits, the team overcame an early 6-8 deficit to take a 17-15 lead into halftime. Romy Sieber was the standout performer, scoring eight goals.
This victory continues a period of significant success for German youth handball, following recent titles for the U21, U17, U19, and U20 squads. The U16 team remained undefeated throughout the tournament, having previously defeated Mexico, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, and Russia in the knockout stages.
In senior women's handball, the German national team also showed strong form during the Golden League tournament in Denmark. The squad, coached by Markus Gaugisch, defeated Denmark 26-21, bolstered by a strong defensive performance and key saves from goalkeeper Katharina Filter. This win serves as preparation for the upcoming European Championship in December.
