Germany women's handball team tests form ahead of European Championship
The German women's national handball team has completed key preparation matches in the Golden League ahead of the upcoming European Championship. Following a 26:21 victory against Denmark, the team secured a 25:25 draw against the Netherlands in Odense.
Goalkeeper Katharina Filter emerged as a central figure for the squad, recording 14 saves against Denmark and providing stability to a defense in transition. Other notable performances included Sarah Wachter, who made 17 saves against the Netherlands, and Nina Engel, who scored ten goals in the same match.
Head coach Markus Gaugisch faces roster challenges as the tournament approaches. The team is adjusting to the retirement of Aimée von Pereira, and the availability of veteran player Xenia Smits remains uncertain following her recent pregnancy. Germany is scheduled to begin its European Championship campaign against Sweden on December 4 in Bratislava.
