Germany's 2026 Gothic and Metal Festivals Attract Global Audiences

The Wave Gotik Treffen (WGT) returned in 2026 as the world’s largest gathering of the gothic scene. Held over four days in Leipzig, the festival featured a broad lineup of international bands—including Italy’s Vlad in Tears, the US’s Octavian Winters, the UK’s Skeletal Family and France’s Frustration—and offered parallel events such as exhibitions, readings, a Victorian picnic, a pagan village and a medieval market.

From July 29 to August 1, the village of Wacken in Schleswig‑Holstein hosted Wacken Open Air 2026, again selling out in advance. Headliners Def Leppard, Powerwolf, Sabaton and Judas Priest shared the stage with numerous other rock and metal acts from Europe and beyond. Fans unable to attend could watch a livestream via MagentaTV, continuing the festival’s tradition of online access.
