North Rhine‑Westphalia police boost August speed checks across Germany
During the first week of August, the police in North Rhine‑Westphalia (NRW) will intensify speed controls on major roads, focusing on accident hotspots and also conducting alcohol‑related checks. Similar temporary speed‑monitoring operations are planned in other German states and several European countries, with local police authorities deciding exact locations. Drivers caught exceeding limits face fines, penalty points and possible driving bans. The ADAD Nordrhein supports the measures, saying they raise awareness of the dangers of speeding, while officials stress that sustained, targeted enforcement is needed to reduce serious traffic accidents.
