Germany's 2027 Holiday Calendar Enables Early Travel Savings
In 2027 several German public holidays fall on weekends, reducing the number of days employees can take off. Labor Day (May 1) and Christmas Day (Dec 25) land on Saturday, while German Unity Day (Oct 3) and the second Christmas day fall on Sunday. However, traditional long weekends such as Good Friday (Mar 26) and Easter Monday (Mar 29), Ascension Thursday (May 6), Pentecost Monday (May 17) and Corpus Christi (May 27) remain fully usable without using vacation days.
The German Travel Association (DRV) notes a growing trend of travellers booking well in advance to secure better availability and lower prices. Early planners can combine these bridge days with a single vacation day to create extended trips, benefiting from a broader selection of hotels, holiday homes and flights that are often cheaper months ahead of travel. Flexible travel dates—such as departing on a Tuesday or Wednesday adjacent to a long weekend—can further reduce costs and avoid congestion.
