Germany’s A38 highway sees accident and temporary closure

On 28 July 2026 a traffic accident occurred on the A38 near Nordhausen, Germany. A 56‑year‑old driver of a Mercedes minibus left the carriageway at the start of a construction zone and collided with warning barrels. The driver was unharmed, the vehicle was disabled and the road section was briefly closed while the damage, estimated at €5,000, was cleared.

The following day, urgent repairs forced a 12‑hour closure of the A38 between the Leipzig interchange and the Leipzig‑Südost entry point. The work, required to fix a damaged lane, halted traffic from 18:00 on Wednesday until 06:00 on Thursday. Detours were signed for vehicles travelling between Leipzig, Dresden and the connecting A72 route.
