Germany's Ambassador calls for enhanced European defense capabilities

Angela Ganninger, the German Ambassador to Romania, stated that the ongoing war in Ukraine and continuous hybrid attacks against Western democracies necessitate a fundamental enhancement of European security and defense capabilities. Speaking at a recent event, Ganninger noted that the conflict poses a constant threat to peace and stability, particularly on NATO's eastern flank.

She highlighted the dominant role of air defense in modern warfare, emphasizing the importance of both manned and unmanned aerial systems. Ganninger observed that battlefields are increasingly shaped by drones, which can operate in autonomous swarms coordinated by artificial intelligence. To address these evolving threats, she pointed to joint initiatives such as the European Sky Shield Initiative and NATO-led efforts, noting that long-range strike and electronic warfare capabilities have become essential.
