Germany's Bad Lauchstädt Energy Park Prepares Gas Processing Plant for Green Hydrogen
The gas‑processing plant of the DBI – Gastechnologisches Institut gGmbH Freiburg at the Energiepark Bad Lauchstädt has passed the H₂ leak‑tightness test under TÜV Thüringen supervision, clearing the way for a stepwise ramp‑up.
The facility will purify hydrogen produced by a 30‑MW electrolyser powered with renewable electricity from a nearby wind park. After a 25‑km pipeline transport to the TotalEnergies refinery in Leuna, the plant removes trace water, sulfur compounds and hydrocarbons using a membrane‑based drying technology, achieving the highest DVGW G 260 Group D purity grade of 99.97 %. It can handle up to 12 000 Nm³ per hour and is expected to deliver its first hydrogen later this year.
The plant serves as the critical link between production, transport, storage and industrial use within the energy park’s full value chain, demonstrating industrial‑scale quality assurance for future hydrogen networks.
