Germany's BfV launches helpline for exiles facing foreign repression

Germany's domestic intelligence agency, the BfV (Office for the Protection of the Constitution), has launched a dedicated helpline to support individuals exiled from authoritarian nations such as Russia, China, and Iran.

The initiative targets dissidents, journalists, and members of the LGBTQ community who face increasing threats of surveillance, intimidation, repression, or abduction while living in Germany. By providing this support line, the BfV aims to gather information from those affected to better analyze and counter the repressive strategies used by foreign agents.

The agency stated in a promotional brochure that it can use both its own investigations and information provided by individuals to track down those responsible for such actions. This outreach coincides with ongoing discussions in Berlin to grant intelligence services, including the BND, expanded powers to intercept communications and disrupt foreign cyber and hybrid attacks.
