Germany's Community Solar Events Highlight PV Installations and Upcycling

On 9 May 2026, members of UrStrom Bürgerenergie eG organized a photovoltaic (PV) practice excursion in Gustavsburg. Eleven participants toured seven distinct solar installations, ranging from a balcony‑mounted flat‑panel system to an East‑West oriented array with battery storage and warm‑water heating, a multi‑directional roof system with a 12.5 kWh E3/DC battery, a classic south‑facing setup with Sungrow inverter, a non‑storage installation facing the end of its EEG subsidy, and a high‑voltage/low‑voltage hybrid storage system. Operators shared experiences, decisions, challenges, and optimisation opportunities, providing a hands‑on view of modern solar‑energy flexibility.

A separate event on 20 July 2026 in Straubing attracted about 50 photovoltaic enthusiasts who up‑cycled decommissioned PV modules into balcony‑power kits. Participants cleaned the modules, performed voltage checks, fitted new connectors, and took the refurbished units home, while sourcing their own inverters and mounting hardware. The initiative, hosted by the city, the local waste‑management association, and partner organisations, demonstrated resource conservation, waste reduction, and a low‑cost entry to personal solar generation.
