Germany expands DAB+ digital radio coverage with new licenses
By the end of 2025 Germany’s DAB+ digital radio network will comprise 182 transmission sites, reaching about 77.7 million people – more than 91 % of the population. Mobile reception already covers over 98 % of the country and highway coverage exceeds 99 %, effectively delivering near‑full national coverage. The expanded multiplexes carry a wide range of national and regional stations, including public broadcasters, commercial channels and specialty formats.
In Baden‑Württemberg, the independent music station egoFM secured a long‑term DAB+ licence. The Media Council of the State Communications Authority awarded the station 54 capacity units on multiplex channel 11B, effective 1 July 2026 and guaranteed until the end of 2032, together with an unlimited licence for full‑program broadcasting. The decision, made after a competitive tender, provides egoFM with planning certainty and strengthens its role as a partner for the region’s music and cultural scene.
