Bae Bites snacks recalled in Austria, Germany and Switzerland over aflatoxin risk

The barefood way GmbH has launched a precautionary recall of several Bae Bites snack products after a routine test revealed aflatoxin levels exceeding the legal limit in a raw‑material ingredient. The affected items include Bae Bites Cinnamon Roll (2 × 20 g), Creamy Pistachio (2 × 20 g), Soft Oat Bar Cookie Dough (2 × 20 g) and Soft Haferriegel Cookie Dough (40 g), across specific batch numbers with best‑before dates in July‑September 2026.

Retail chains BILLA, BIPA, dm and Rossmann in Austria, Germany and Switzerland have removed the batches from shelves and posted notices online and in stores. Consumers are urged not to eat the products and may return purchased items without a receipt until 15 July 2026. German authorities, including the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL), have classified the aflatoxins as potentially carcinogenic, triggering the mandatory withdrawal under EU General Food Law. The recall also poses financial implications for the manufacturer and the retailers, who must bear reverse‑logistics, waste disposal and potential brand‑reputation costs.
