Germany’s Driving License Costs Surge Across Categories

In Germany, the price of obtaining a driving licence has risen sharply. For a motorcycle licence class A, the ADAC reports average costs of €2,500 – €4,000, with the BVF and VIFD estimating €2,500 and Check24 giving a range of €2,500 – €4,000. The cheaper classes cost less: class A1 around €2,300, A2 about €2,600 – €3,400, and AM between €1,000 – €1,500.

A separate study of car‑licence (class B) fees in Germany’s 20 largest cities shows large regional differences. In 2025, Berlin’s average cost was €2,501, while Munich topped out at €4,329, making it €1,828 more expensive than the capital. Leipzig and Dresden averaged about €3,800, and other high‑cost cities include Hamburg, Nuremberg and Cologne. Lower‑cost cities include Hannover, Dortmund, Duisburg and Wuppertal.
