The research recommends a complementary ecosystem of short‑term solutions such as high‑performance capacitors and flywheels, medium‑term options like pumped‑hydro plants, and long‑term or seasonal storage including thermal systems and green hydrogen produced by electrolysis.
The study notes that about 70 % of Germany’s electricity already comes from wind and solar, making reliable backup crucial for industrial, commercial and residential users.
