Germany’s Flag Football Teams Gear Up for 2026 Düsseldorf World Championship

Germany’s men’s and women’s national flag‑football squads are in the final stage of preparation ahead of the 2026 World Championships, which will be staged in Düsseldorf – the first time the tournament is held in Germany. The men’s team travelled to Basel for a series of test matches against France, Switzerland and Austria, using the games to fine‑tune offensive timing, defensive communication, special‑situations and overall team cohesion, according to the German American Football Association (AFVD). The women’s team held a camp in Vienna, securing consecutive wins over Austria (28‑21 and 28‑19) to build confidence before the home event.

The Düsseldorf tournament is seen as a major visibility boost for the sport, especially as flag football is slated to debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Success on home soil is expected to stimulate grassroots participation, school programs and club growth across Germany, while the Basel and Vienna preparations are described as essential steps toward competing at the highest level.
