Germany's fuel prices near pre‑war levels as tax rebate expires

Fuel prices in Germany are sliding back toward levels seen before the war in the Middle East. On Monday the ADAC reported the national average diesel price at €1.816 per litre and E10 gasoline at €1.868 per litre, each modestly lower than the day before. Tuesday figures showed diesel at €1.764 per litre and E10 at €1.826 per litre, indicating continued declines.

The drop is helped by a government fuel‑tax rebate that cuts the levy by 16.7 cents per litre, a measure that ends at the end of the month. Analysts warn that once the rebate expires, prices could rise again within the next two weeks, though diesel has already fallen below €2 per litre even without the discount. The downward trend is also linked to easing tensions in the Middle East, which have lowered crude‑oil prices.
