Germany's Golf Sector Shows Resort Growth and Eco-Seed Drive

The Quellness & Golf Resort in Bad Griesbach, Bavaria, has become one of Europe’s largest golf centers with ten courses spread across the Rottal valley. The project was launched by entrepreneur Alois Hartl after a suggestion from his longtime friend, former football star Franz Beckenbauer, and now includes the Bernhard Langer‑designed Beckenbauer Golf Course.

In Baden‑Württemberg, the family‑owned firm Rieger‑Hofmann GmbH supplies native wildflower and grass seed to golf courses throughout Germany. The company, now employing about 70 people and cultivating roughly 700 ha with partners, participates in the GolfBiodivers project of the German Golf Association, which receives federal funding to promote biodiversity on golf facilities.

Both initiatives illustrate how Germany’s golf industry is expanding recreational offerings while advancing ecological stewardship of course landscapes.
