Germany's Green House Number award promotes energy‑efficient homes in Hannover and Cloppenburg
The Klimaschutz‑ und Energieagentur Niedersachsen, together with regional partners, is accepting applications for the "Grüne Hausnummer" award, which recognises residential buildings that achieve high energy efficiency. In the Region Hannover, owners can apply from 15 July 2026, with a deadline of 15 September 2026; the award ceremony is slated for 26 November 2026. In the Landkreis Cloppenburg, applications are open until 30 September 2026.
Eligibility requires either a renovation that meets stringent energy‑saving standards or new construction certified as at least an Effizienzhaus 40. More than 2 300 homes across Niedersachsen have already received the award. The programme aims to curb the building sector’s roughly 30 % share of Germany’s annual greenhouse‑gas emissions. "Die Energiewende findet auch vor dereigenen Haustür statt," said Dr. Annika Mannah, managing director of the regional climate agency. Lothar Nolte added, "Gute Beispiele sind wichtige Impulse für andere."
Two special €500 prizes will be granted in 2026: the "Zukunftshaus Neubau" by Avacon AG and the "Energiewende" prize by proKlima – Der enercity‑Fonds.
