Germany's IG BCE proposes raising top income tax threshold to €100,000
IG BCE union leader Michael Vassiliadis called for the top income‑tax rate in Germany to apply only to earnings above roughly €100,000, up from the current threshold of about €70,000. He suggested raising the top marginal rate by two to three percentage points and introducing a "rich‑tax" for incomes over €200,000.
The union also urged higher taxes on inheritances and opposed proposals to increase taxes on business assets, arguing that firms need capital for investment. Vassiliadis proposed an additional levy on the ultra‑wealthy to finance infrastructure projects and defence spending, emphasizing that very rich individuals should contribute directly to these public costs.
