Germany's IGA Ruhr 2027 marks progress with Hülsenbecker Tal second star and Dinslaken garden ambassadors

The International Garden Exhibition (IGA) Ruhr 2027 awarded its project "Zukunftslandschaft Hülsenbecker Tal" a second of three possible stars, signalling a key planning milestone after a successful funding application. The project aims to ecologically upgrade the Hülsenbecker Tal recreation area with flood protection, renaturation of the Hülsenbecke, a year‑round playground, improved animal enclosures and new visitor facilities. Mayor Imke Heymann highlighted the importance of the award for the local community, while IGA Ruhr 2027 managing director Horst Fischer noted the site's potential for nature‑based recreation and climate adaptation. Final agreements with landowners, funders and authorities are now being finalised before construction can begin.

In parallel, the city of Dinslaken launched a call for ten garden ambassadors to operate a public dye‑garden at the Hof Emschermündung, a legacy component of IGA 2027. In partnership with the organization sevengardens, the ambassadors – drawn from educators, artisans, designers and hobbyists – will receive training to share plant‑based colour knowledge, sustainable practices and cultural history. The garden is intended to remain a permanent community space for seed exchange, experimentation and education beyond the exhibition period.
