Germany's private solar adoption analyzed in EEAktuell report
The independent platform EEAktuell released its first data report on the private energy transition in Germany, based on 9,898 anonymous calculations submitted to twelve interactive tools between December 2025 and June 2026.
The most common scenario is balcony photovoltaic systems (5,019 calculations), with a median payback of 4.6 years; full‑size PV installations pay back in 6.2 years on average. Households that add battery storage double their self‑consumption rate to 80 % (versus 40 % without storage) and see a 20‑year financial benefit of €31,500 compared with €13,843 without storage. Typical system size is 9 kW peak. Over half of users also plan an electric‑vehicle charging point, and about half intend to install a heat pump.
Regionally, North Rhine‑Westphalia accounts for 21.7 % of the calculations, followed by Bavaria (17.1 %) and Baden‑Württemberg (15.7 %). Southern Germany dominates the PV calculators (34‑43 %). Solar yield shows a north‑south gradient, with Bavaria producing 818 kWh per kW‑peak‑year versus 666 kWh in Schleswig‑Holstein.
