Germany prepares for World Cup round of 32 against Paraguay

Germany, the winners of Group E at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, will face Paraguay in the round‑of‑32 on Monday 29 June 2026 (22:30 CET) at Foxborough’s stadium near Boston. Paraguay qualified as one of the eight best third‑placed teams after a 1‑4 loss to the United States, a 1‑0 win over Turkey and a 0‑0 draw with Australia, and are noted for their defensive resilience.

DFB sport director Rudi Völler expressed confidence, saying “Der Glaube ist da, dass wir alles rausholen … Da geht es um alles.” He warned that the team must avoid “unnecessary midfield errors” and urged the attacking trio – Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz and Kai Havertz – to “zünden.” Coach Julian Nagelsmann noted Paraguay’s physical style and said Germany will rely on speed and tactical adjustments rather than trying to match the South Americans’ brute strength. Injured or suspended players such as Nathaniel Brown (adductor) and Diego Gómez (yellow‑card suspension) were highlighted. The match will be refereed by Moroccan official Jalal Jayed.

German media stress the stakes: a win is required to stay in the tournament, with potential quarter‑final opponents including France, the Netherlands or Spain. Broadcasts will be on ZDF, MagentaTV and other partners, and the game is expected to dominate German sports coverage in the following days.
