Germany's Summer Clearance Sale Kicks Off on July 27, 2026

A voluntary summer clearance sale (Sommerschlussverkauf) begins across German retail on Monday, 27 July 2026. The Handelsverband Deutschland (HDE) says the promotion, lasting about two weeks, lets retailers clear spring‑summer stock and make room for autumn collections, with discounts often reaching up to 70 %. Participating sectors include clothing, home‑improvement, furniture, sports and electronics.

Retailers cite weak consumer sentiment and overstocked inventories as reasons for the deep cuts. Independent shops such as the Cologne boutique "Gioia," run by Martina Maturi, can now schedule sales whenever new collections arrive, a flexibility introduced after the 2004 abolition of the statutory sales dates. The HDE expects many German retailers to use the period to attract price‑sensitive shoppers before the autumn season.
