Germany's used electric‑car market offers 70,000 units as transfers rise
Germany has around 70,000 used electric vehicles (EVs) on the market, many returning from lease contracts. TÜV SÜD expert Markus Gregor says the batteries are typically well maintained, with most retaining 90 % of capacity after 200,000 km, making used EVs a financially attractive alternative to new models.
In June, the overall used‑car market saw a 5.1 % increase in ownership transfers, amounting to 548,286 vehicles. While conventional cars still dominate, battery‑electric vehicles accounted for 6.4 % of all transfers, and plug‑in hybrids 3.1 %. Industry observers note growing consumer interest in used EVs despite limited supply, suggesting that sales could rise if more units become available.
