Germany's World Cup round‑of‑16 loss prompts Thomas Müller criticism

Germany's national football team was eliminated in the World Cup round of 16 after a penalty shoot‑out defeat to Paraguay. Former world champion Thomas Müller posted an emotional LinkedIn message saying the shock was evident on his face and on millions of German fans. He criticised the lack of a clear core or consistency in the side, despite a preceding run of eleven straight wins, and called for a thorough analysis and modernization of player development.

France forward Randal Barcola, speaking before his own round‑of‑16 clash with Paraguay, expressed confidence that the French attack trio can break down Paraguay's compact defence. He highlighted the team's collective approach – “we pass, we attack and we defend together” – and noted that the hot conditions in Philadelphia would test both sides but would not deter France.

Both players used the platform of the tournament to call for tactical adjustments and to convey optimism ahead of the next matches.
