Germán Pezzella joins Peñarol after leaving River Plate

Argentine defender Germán Pezzella has officially joined the Uruguayan club Peñarol. The 2022 World Cup winner joined the team as a free agent following the mutual termination of his contract with River Plate.

Pezzella has signed a contract that extends his stay with Peñarol until December 2027. He is set to wear the number 2 jersey and has already begun training with the professional squad. His arrival marks a historic milestone for Uruguayan football, as he is the first World Cup champion to play in the country's top division in more than 50 years.

In addition to his international success with Argentina, Pezzella's career includes titles with River Plate, such as the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana, as well as a Copa del Rey with Real Betis. He will reunite at Peñarol with former River Plate player Cristian Jaime.
