Germán Pezzella joins Peñarol following River Plate departure

Argentine defender Germán Pezzella has officially joined Peñarol in Uruguay following the termination of his contract with River Plate. During his presentation, the 35-year-old World Cup winner expressed gratitude to River Plate, calling it “the most important club of my life.” Pezzella, who had been training apart from the main squad under Eduardo Coudet, signed an 18-month contract with the Uruguayan side.

Meanwhile, at River Plate, Leonardo Ponzio has taken over as interim manager following Coudet's departure. Ponzio is currently preparing the squad for a match against Independiente Rivadavia in the Torneo Clausura.

Regarding coaching rumors, Hernán Crespo, currently managing Atlas in Mexico, has dismissed reports linking him to a return as River Plate's permanent manager, labeling the claims as “a rumor.”
