Gernika youth protest against Gaztetxe eviction

A large group of young people held a sit-in at the Gernika City Council to protest the planned eviction of the Gaztetxe de Gernika in Bizkaia. The protesters are demanding that the building remains operational and that scheduled renovation works be postponed.

The local government intends to repurpose the building into a library, a move protesters claim is being used as a pretext for eviction without a consensus on how the youth center can continue its activities. Following a call to action by Egurre Gazte Asamblada, the mobilization prevented a construction company from beginning work as scheduled.

The City Council has indicated that no work would commence today, and youth representatives have reportedly secured a meeting with local officials to discuss the situation.
