Gerolakkos: 35-year-old woman killed by husband

A 35-year-old woman has been killed in the Gerolakkos area near the Morphou-Nicosia road. Police report that the victim was traveling in a vehicle with her 41-year-old husband when a verbal altercation occurred. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road into a field, where the suspect allegedly attacked the woman, striking her in the head with an electric cutting tool found inside the vehicle.

The suspect has reportedly provided a self-incriminating statement to the police, admitting to the killing. The Nicosia District Court has ordered a three-day detention for the man to allow for continued investigations and the completion of an autopsy.

This incident marks the second femicide in the occupied areas within just five days, following a similar case on September 7 in Agios Georgios of Karpasia. The recent surge in violence against women has sparked significant public outcry and calls for strengthened protection measures.
