Gerontological Center in Sarajevo suspends visits due to scabies outbreak

The Gerontological Center in Sarajevo, located in Nedžarići, has temporarily suspended visits to its residential facility following the detection of scabies cases. Mirza Musa, the director of the center, confirmed that two patients have been infected but stated the situation is not alarming, noting that such outbreaks occur approximately twice a year in collective living environments.

In response to the outbreak, the center has implemented strict epidemiological measures, including the isolation of infected individuals and the disposal of all furniture and mattresses. The facility is also undergoing disinfection and repainting.

The Sarajevo Canton Institute of Public Health is actively monitoring the situation. Zlatan Hamza, director of the Institute, confirmed that epidemiological teams have conducted field visits to provide professional support and ensure the consistent application of anti-epidemic measures. All close contacts of the infected individuals are receiving preventive treatment in accordance with professional guidelines.
