Gerry Cardinale reaffirms commitment to AC Milan and European sports investment
Gerry Cardinale, owner of AC Milan and head of RedBird, stated during the Bloomberg Screentime 2026 that he would choose to repurchase AC Milan if given the opportunity today. He described the club as the ‘New York Yankees of Italian football’ and highlighted Milan’s importance within Europe’s fashion industry.
Cardinale explained his investment strategy focuses on identifying assets that need ‘repairing’ to accelerate their return to former glory. He noted that while American sports assets are currently ‘terribly overpriced,’ European football presents an enormous opportunity.
To drive growth, Cardinale aims to integrate sports with entertainment to better finance athletic endeavors. His plans for Milan include utilizing the San Siro stadium and constructing a new 80,000-seat venue. Additionally, he expressed interest in bringing an NBA team to Milan by building an NBA-standard arena, ultimately creating a comprehensive Milanese sports and entertainment platform to help Italian football reach levels comparable to the Premier League.
