Athletics: Baldé finishes fourth as Pichardo reaches triple jump final
At the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, Portuguese long jumper Gerson Baldé finished in fourth place. Despite a final leap of 8.18 meters that briefly placed him in third, he was overtaken by Bulgaria’s Bozhidar Sarâboyukov, who secured the bronze with 8.26 meters. Baldé’s performance equaled the best Portuguese result in the outdoor European long jump competition, a record held since 1950.
In the triple jump, Pedro Pablo Pichardo qualified for the final with a leading mark of 17.56 meters. The two-time world champion expressed high motivation to reclaim his European title, citing a competitive rivalry with Italian athlete Andy Díaz.
In football, Sporting de Braga prepares for the second leg of their Conference League third qualifying round against Dinamo Minsk. After winning the first leg 1-0, coach Carlos Vicens emphasized the need for offensive dynamism and clinical efficiency to secure a place in the play-offs.
