Mato Grosso Assembly maintains veto on Judiciary salary increase

The Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso (ALMT) has resumed activities following the first round of the 2026 elections. The election results will see 18 re-elected deputies and five newcomers in the next legislature, representing a 25% turnover in the 24-seat house. Max Russi (Podemos) has confirmed his candidacy for the presidency of the Assembly for the 2027-2028 biennium.

In its first session post-election, the Assembly maintained a veto on Project of Law 1398/2025, which would have granted a 6.8% salary increase to permanent employees of the Mato Grosso Court of Justice (TJMT). The decision was reached with 12 votes to maintain the veto and 6 in favor of overturning it. The executive branch had previously vetoed the measure citing a lack of financial sustainability and potential impact on other public sectors.

Additionally, the Assembly approved 28 other legislative projects covering diverse areas such as health, environment, and social inclusion. These include mandates for dental care in assistance institutions and policies for Oropouche fever. Meanwhile, political shifts are occurring within the MDB, as deputy Eduardo Botelho has expressed a desire to reconstruct the party's state leadership.
