Gerta Schnirch historical drama to premiere on Czech Television

The two-part historical drama ‘Gerta Schnirch’, based on the novel by Kateřina Tučková, is set to premiere on Czech Television (ČT1). The series follows the life of a fictional protagonist, Gerta Schnirch, growing up in a Czech-German family in Brno.

The narrative spans several decades, beginning with the impact of World War II and the subsequent forced displacement of people with German heritage. The story explores themes of collective guilt, human dignity, and the struggle of an individual against totalitarian systems. Gerta joins the resistance during the occupation, but later faces the harsh consequences of her background during the post-war period.

Directed by Tomáš Mašín, the production is a co-production involving Negativ, Czech Television, HBO, and Arte. The lead roles are portrayed by Barbora Váchová, playing the younger Gerta, and Milena Steinmasslová, playing the older version of the character. The first part is scheduled to air on Sunday, October 11, with the second part following one week later.
