Gesa Krause and Lea Meyer reconcile after championship tension

German steeplechase runners Gesa Krause and Lea Meyer have resolved their recent tension following a controversial interview at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

During the 3,000-meter steeplechase event, Meyer fell at the final water jump, losing her chance at a medal and finishing fourth. In a subsequent televised interview, Meyer criticized Krause’s racing strategy, suggesting Krause had stayed in the slipstream to wait for a late sprint. Krause, who won the gold medal, later clarified that the two athletes have since spoken.

Krause stated that while they are not inseparable, they communicate normally and discuss topics beyond sports. Meyer also expressed self-criticism regarding her reaction on social media following the race.
