Gesa Krause withdraws from Diamond League steeplechase in Lausanne

At the Diamond League meeting in Lausanne, European champion Gesa Krause withdrew from the 3,000-meter steeplechase after more than half the race was completed. Following her recent European Championship title, the 34-year-old athlete fell behind the lead group before exiting the competition.

Other German competitors also struggled to reach the podium. Olivia Gürth finished ninth with a time of 9:22.47, while Lea Meyer placed tenth in 9:22.48. The event was won by Winfred Yavi of Bahrain, who set a meeting record of 9:00.04. Faith Cherotich of Kenya took second place, followed by Tunisia's Marwa Bouzayani.

The race follows recent tension between Meyer and Krause after the European Championships in Birmingham. Meyer had previously criticized Krause's racing tactics in interviews, though she later issued a public apology and congratulated Krause on her gold medal via social media.
